Reading SEO Health

SEO health is a tab under This site, beside Pages and Crawlers & access. Crawlers & access is the AI side of the site: what AI crawlers can read. SEO health is the search side: whether Google and Bing can find, index and show it. How the number is made is on SEO Health.

  • The answer. The score with its band (good, needs work or poor), a one-line verdict such as “needs work: 3 problems stop Google indexing key pages”, and the trend since the first check. Below it, the four questions each with their own score, and the points lost, so you can see which question costs the most.
  • What to fix. Problems grouped under the four questions and ranked by damage on the pages that matter. Each one shows how many of the checked pages it was found on, marks the pages that AI answers cite or that earn search clicks, says how to fix it and who does it, and lists the affected pages with what was measured. Opening a rule shows its source, a link to the search engine’s own documentation.
  • Good to know. Notices that cost nothing, such as markup a search engine has stopped using.
  • Pages checked. Every page the check read, with its score, filterable by template.
  • What is checked. Every rule in plain words, with its weight and source, and which of them were measured on this site, so the score can be checked by hand.

A verified site is checked once a week. Check again runs one now, at most once an hour; while it runs, the tab says how far it is. A check takes minutes, not hours, and does not wait for a full run. A site whose first check has not finished shows the pages of its latest run instead.

Add to plays on a problem makes an SEO play for its rule: one play per rule, with the affected pages inside it and what was measured on each. The play’s acceptance check is the rule itself, read from the latest SEO check, so it can say “1 of 2 pages fixed” and counts as shipped when a check newer than the play passes it. Open play takes you back to it, and the play has an Open in SEO Health link the other way. Critical problems on the pages that matter get a play on their own, at most three at a time.

Findings about AI access (crawlers, llms.txt, rendering for agents) stay in Crawlers & access, so nothing shows twice. A problem that SEO Health owns never also appears as a page fix or site fix play from the site audit: an audit play you have not taken is dismissed as moved to SEO Health, and one you have taken becomes the rule’s SEO play, keeping its status, owner and history.

  • A score is for the pages it read. The tab says how many and which templates they stand for.
  • A rule that could not be measured costs nothing and is listed as not checked, rather than guessed.
  • Two checks compare like with like: the sample keeps the pages the last check read, so a change in the score is a change on the site.
