Google Search controls for generative AI features
Search Console has a site-level Search generative AI control (Settings; rolled out to all websites worldwide by 31 August 2026) that excludes the site's content from AI Overviews, AI Mode and generative AI features in Discover; Google says the control is not used as a ranking or inclusion signal elsewhere in Search, and that it does not affect AI training (Google-Extended governs that). Properties inherit the setting from their closest parent unless an owner overrides it. Content is excluded within 1–2 days after a change goes live, some later due to caching; it is an account setting, invisible to a crawl. Google's generative AI optimisation guide makes inclusion in this control a condition of eligibility, alongside being indexed and eligible to show with a snippet.

AGrade A: official documentation or a standard. A grade describes the provenance of the sources above; it is not a probability that a change will work. The effect basis says how the size of the effect is known: measured by a study, taken from an industry report, only documented without a size, or not quantified.
