Google preferred sources and personal context
Google's Preferred Sources (launched 12 August 2025 in the US and India) is now available worldwide for Top Stories in every Search language: a user who selects a site sees more of its fresh articles there with a "preferred" badge, and in AI Overviews and AI Mode its content can carry the same badge, but only if the site is included in Search generative AI features in Search Console. Only domains and subdomains are eligible, not subdirectories; publishers can add Google's button (publisher.js) or a deeplink to google.com/preferences/source. AI Mode answers are also personalised by Personal Intelligence, which lets users connect Gmail and Google Photos and was extended at I/O 2026 to nearly 200 countries and territories in 98 languages without a subscription.

AGrade A: official documentation or a standard. A grade describes the provenance of the sources above; it is not a probability that a change will work. The effect basis says how the size of the effect is known: measured by a study, taken from an industry report, only documented without a size, or not quantified.
