Reported Google AI Mode adoption in 2026

Google AI Mode passed one billion monthly users about a year after launch, with queries more than doubling every quarter since launch, and Gemini 3.5 Flash became its default model globally (Google I/O, May 2026). Google reports the average AI Mode search is three times the length of a traditional Search query. AI Mode uses query fan-out, breaking a question into subtopics and issuing many searches at once, which raises the weight of sub-question coverage.
