INP replaced fid
INP (Interaction to Next Paint) replaced First Input Delay as the responsiveness Core Web Vital on 12 March 2024; good is ≤ 200 ms and poor is > 500 ms at p75. It observes all interactions in a visit and reports the longest, ignoring outliers, so long JavaScript tasks, heavy client-side rendering and large DOMs hurt it even when the page loaded fast. Like the other vitals it is used by Google's ranking systems but weighs far less than relevance (see perf.cwv-ranking-signal); its main cost is to users. Lab tools that only load the page cannot report INP; Total Blocking Time is a reasonable lab proxy that flags INP issues but is not a substitute for field INP from CrUX.

AGrade A: official documentation or a standard. A grade describes the provenance of the sources above; it is not a probability that a change will work. The effect basis says how the size of the effect is known: measured by a study, taken from an industry report, only documented without a size, or not quantified.
