Page weight and crawl

Server speed affects how much Google crawls: its crawl-budget guide says that if a site responds quickly and stably the crawl capacity limit goes up, and if it slows down or returns server errors the limit goes down and Google crawls less. The guide is aimed at large sites (roughly 1 million+ pages, or 10,000+ changing daily). Page weight also costs real users: the 2025 Web Almanac (July 2025 crawl) puts the median home page at 2.56 MB on mobile and 2.86 MB on desktop.

BGrade B: peer-reviewed or a large controlled study. A grade describes the provenance of the sources above; it is not a probability that a change will work. The effect basis says how the size of the effect is known: measured by a study, taken from an industry report, only documented without a size, or not quantified.
