Faceted/filter URLs can create near-infinite URL spaces that cause overcrawling and slower discovery of new pages. Google recommends blocking facet URLs you don't need indexed with robots.txt or implementing filters in URL fragments; otherwise use rel=canonical or rel=nofollow on facet links, the standard & separator, a consistent filter order, and a 404 for filter combinations that return no results.
