Rsl licensing standard

Really Simple Licensing (RSL) 1.0 was published on 10 December 2025 as a Recommendation by the RSL Technical Steering Committee: an XML vocabulary for machine-readable licensing terms for AI systems, discovered through a License: line in robots.txt pointing at the RSL document, a Link header or HTML link with rel="license" and type application/rsl+xml, RSS or the file itself. Its usage terms are all, ai-all, ai-train, ai-input (retrieval-augmented generation, grounding and AI search summaries), ai-index and search (links and short excerpts), with payment models such as attribution, subscription and per-inference. RSL is a declaration; enforcement is left to its license-server protocol, paywalls or bot-management services.
