Identifying the correct product variant
Google's product-variant structured data uses ProductGroup with hasVariant, variesBy and productGroupID (the parent SKU) to declare that several products are variations (for example size, colour, material, pattern) of one parent, and documents two implementations: a single page with one canonical URL for the whole group, or one page per variant with the ProductGroup definition repeated on each. Its examples give variants different prices and availability within one group.

AGrade A: official documentation or a standard. A grade describes the provenance of the sources above; it is not a probability that a change will work. The effect basis says how the size of the effect is known: measured by a study, taken from an industry report, only documented without a size, or not quantified.
