MCP remote server
The Model Context Protocol (current specification 2026-07-28) is an open protocol for AI applications to call a service's tools and read its resources over JSON-RPC 2.0. A remote MCP server uses the Streamable HTTP transport, where each message is an HTTP POST to a single MCP endpoint. Authorization is optional. A protected server acts as an OAuth 2.1 resource server and must publish OAuth 2.0 Protected Resource Metadata (RFC 9728) so that clients can discover its authorization server. OpenAI's Apps SDK, which builds apps that run inside ChatGPT, is built on MCP, and every NLWeb instance is also an MCP server.

AGrade A: official documentation or a standard. A grade describes the provenance of the sources above; it is not a probability that a change will work. The effect basis says how the size of the effect is known: measured by a study, taken from an industry report, only documented without a size, or not quantified.
