Spam covers AI answers
On 15 May 2026 Google clarified that its spam policies apply to generative AI responses in Google Search: the spam policies page now defines spam as techniques used to deceive users or manipulate Search systems into featuring content prominently, including attempting to manipulate generative AI responses. Tactics aimed at getting featured in AI answers are therefore judged by the same policies as ranking manipulation, and sites that violate them may rank lower or not appear at all.

AGrade A: official documentation or a standard. A grade describes the provenance of the sources above; it is not a probability that a change will work. The effect basis says how the size of the effect is known: measured by a study, taken from an industry report, only documented without a size, or not quantified.
